Redhead explorer Scentinel fleece camo line
Recently, I decided it was time to replace my worn out camo before the upcoming rut here in West Virginia. By the time bucks really get chasing around the second or third week of November, it can be in the 20’s in the mornings and never quite get out of the 40’s in the afternoon before dropping back into the 30’s during prime time in the evening. I knew I needed something warm, but I didn’t want to sweat getting to the stand either so I did some research and decided on the Redhead Explorer Scentinel Fleece from Bass Pro Shops. I ordered the jacket, pants, and vest.
This past weekend I was finally able to put them to work for me. Over the course of the weekend the system got a chance to do its job in all of the styles of hunting I do. I didn’t set out to use it in these different conditions but it worked out perfectly that way.
Saturday morning the conditions forced me into more of a scouting and spot and stalk hunt. I walked over 4 miles and my clothing performed great. I didn’t overheat and sweat like crazy while climbing mountains and walking all over. Another thing that caught my attention was that I didn’t have any stickers on me after the hunt. (Huge win).
Sunday morning I went to a preset tree stand to hunt and it was bitter cold. We had a hard frost and it was 23 degrees. My fingers and toes were frozen, but my arms and legs which usually get cold as well, were fine. I was comfortable throughout the entire sit despite the cold conditions.
Sunday afternoon I took a mobile setup deep into a new spot. Temperatures were in the high 40’s and even despite having the plethora of gear that goes along with my mobile setup I didn’t have an issue with sweat. It was quite windy so I anticipated that maybe that would effect the heat retention of these clothes once I stopped moving. Again, like the morning hunt I stayed comfortable throughout.
All in all, I give this camouflage system a 9/10 with potential to go higher once the extreme cold sets in. The heat regulation was phenomenal for the variety of situations I put it in which has been a problem in the past for me. I loved that I didn’t have to put my jacket in my pack to stay cool going in. I would definitely recommend this to anyone on the hunt for new camo, and best of all, it’s extremely budget friendly.

Precision Peeps
This week in our product review section, we're going to be checking out Precision Peeps. Thanks for casting your votes on Twitter! This isn't your normal corporate business that came out with some whacky new product in hopes of luring people into another gimmick. This is actually as close to the opposite as you can get. They're a mom-and-pop business, just as they claim on their website, and they've came onto the archery scene strong by bringing a game changing innovation to an accessory that's often an afterthought for archers and hunters. I mean really, when's the last time you and your buddies have sat around and talked about peep sights? If you're talking archery you discuss things like bows, arrows, sights, rests, broadheads, etc. That's where Precision comes in.
I can't get into all of the specifics of how it works or else this review would be longer than "Gone With The Wind" because of all of the engineering that went into making this product what it is. What I will do however is be open to any questions. You can contact me through the contact form on this website or on any of our social media.
The design of these Peeps appears simple, but truly is a well thought out idea. I originally used a black precision peep. I experienced the same benefits that I will discuss later on but in low light conditions I struggled to find the post. Precision Peeps wasted no time in resolving this and now offers many bright color options that are absolutely killer. My personal preference is orange but they are all phenomenal I wouldn't recommend getting the same color as your pin but even if you do it won't hinder the peeps performance.
The benefits you will experience from using a Precision Peep sight are in your grouping, extended range, and most importantly your confidence.
By setting your pin atop the post on your peep each time, you are insuring a consistent anchor point with no torque involved. You can keep this anchor point by lining up these two points even without something such as a kisser button or a facial feature. These in turn shrinks your groups at all ranges and will have you nailing X's or taking out hearts. The only downside to this is the amount of money it's going to cost you to get fletchings put back on your arrows.
They extend your effective range with the peep size. By lining up the post and your pin, you gain a larger sight picture even at ranges out to 100 yards and beyond. This is something you won't get with a conventional peep.
You're going to have confidence to shoot at ranges you never would have imagined if you choose a Precision Peep, and let's be honest who doesn't want to see their effective range extended?
All in all, I have to give Precision Peeps an easy 10/10. It's not often that a product comes along that can completely change an industry and that's exactly what this is going to do once people are able to try it for themselves instead of listening to people who have never used one, bash it. If I had to make a bet, I would say within 5 years most professionals will have one of their own. If there's one thing I can ask of readers, it's to believe me when I say that this isn't a gimmick and if you want to make yourself the best archer possible, get a Precision Peep as soon as possible!
